Bishopthorpe. Located 3 miles to the South of York, and a short distance from the A63, Bishopthorpe is a small village with a rural feel situated close to the River Ouse, but within easy reach of York. The village is home to a small number of shops and pubs, and Bishopthorpe Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of York.

 

Bishopthorpe amenities: In the village there are a number of shops and a library, as well as a selection of pubs. On Main St there is a Cooperative Food and newsagents at the corner of Sim Balk Ln. On Main St there are also 3 pubs – The Marcia, The Woodman and The Ebor

 

Transport: From the village there is regular bus service (twice per hour) into York - service No.11. There is also a well marked, and mostly off road, cycle trail which can be accessed on the nearside of the village. York is also served by major regional and intercity trains.

Historic – York: Jorvik, Clifford's Tower, York Dungeons, York Minster, historic walls.

Houses & Gardens – Castle Howard, Bishopthorpe Palace, Guildhall, Carlton Towers, Beningbrough Hall.

Walking /Cycling – the Selby to York cycle trail can be accessed near by.  Walks along the River Ouse. In York – historic city walls

Races, Theatre Cinema – York Racecourse, Wetherby Racecourse, York Theatre Royal, Vue Cinema  (Clifton Moor).

Other Attractions – National Railway Museum  (York), Yorkshire Air Museum (Elvington), Eden Camp (Malton), York Maze, Cold War Bunker, the Web Adventure Park.

Shopping/Eating – Shopping in York centre, including The Shambles. York Designer Outlet. Betty’s Tea Room, Hazlewood Castle (A63 nr Tadcaster).

Directions:

Approaching York from SW on A64 

take A1036 towards York for 0.5m. 

Turn right on u/c road to Bishopthorpe. 

In village turn right on Appleton Road for 300 yds. 

Turn right into Moor Lane.
